the “Tourtière”

Like the traditional French Canadian meat pie that is its namesake, the Tourtière is a hat with a frank and substantial character. Here, a porkpie crown is pressed flat at the top to create a clean, solid, squared-off silhouette with no pinch or side dents. Unlike the funkier, jazzy version of the porkpie with its shallow crown and very narrow brim, the proportions here are a touch grander, furnishing a hat that is more classically dapper, not to mention more useful in defence against the elements. The sleek 10 or 12 ligne ribbon with its long slender bow and diminutive knot finish the look with a spiffy yet discreet detail. The Tourtière’s neat and clean appearance is easily maintained, but don’t be afraid to massage the snap of the brim or work in a dent or two, just to make it your own. And please don’t eat it.
