the “St. Urbainer”

The name comes from a famous street in Montreal, a city with a distinguished history in the textile and fashion industry. It is also a city with reliable bouts of chilly weather. And when the air is nippy, one’s head requires both style and comfort. Any Leon Drexler full-weight beaver felt hat will effectively meet the challenge of cool temperatures. However, the St. Urbainer goes one step further: it fully embraces the aesthetic. This is an elegantly styled hat, more or less in the Lord’s hat family (see the Londoner), with an unequivocal wintery complexion. A fullish crown with a broad centre crease (no front pinch, but work one in if you like), a fairly wide, open curl on the brim and, most importantly, the plush “angora” finish — all combine to endow this hat with a substantial, cozy look and feel. It is an effective crowning touch for a woolen overcoat, tweed jacket or other cool weather garments, and is perhaps most charming when the nap is a little bit tousled. A light dusting of snow makes it look even better...and you
the wiser.
