the “Cruiser”

The Cruiser owes its creation to comments received from a few clients. It seems some men prefer felt hats over straw even in warm weather. Customers in some fairly warm locales have ordered light coloured, welterweight, linen-lined hats to wear in summer. They claim that such hats function just fine: “No warmer than a densely woven straw hat,” says one. Well, we all have different tolerances, and so no grandiose claims will be made here. Nevertheless, the Cruiser is designed with summery weather in mind. It is given Leon Drexler’s welterweight treatment and lined with a cool, moisture-wicking, open-weave Italian linen. Ventilation and evaporation are further encouraged by perforations around the front of the sweatband and eyelets on each side of the crown. This is a colour-specific design, offered in four pastel versions only. Each has its tart-pan curl bound in a closely matching colour of grosgrain, and all are trimmed with a fine, Como silk, puggeree-style band in French blue. The four versions are:

Limestone felt, binding in Oyster.

Glace felt, binding in Pearl.

Tusk felt, binding in Ivory.

Dune felt, binding in White Truffle.

The sporty look of the Cruiser is part porkpie, part boater, part safari hat, and aims for an aesthetic that will smartly accessorize a cool, leisurely outfit of fine linen or other summer-weight material, be it dressy or casual (see photo at bottom).
And so here you have it: a beaver felt hat to wear in warmer weather. Some may say you’ve gone balmy.
